Masita, Mawnan Smith (2023-24)

This project focused on a deep retrofit with sustainability as a core priority. The goal was to integrate eco-friendly solutions that were practical, affordable, and suited to the needs of a multi-generational family, including provisions for a disabled family member. The property is close to achieving Passivhaus standards, ensuring high energy efficiency and comfort.

The use of new materials and building techniques made this project a learning experience, with every day offering fresh challenges and insights.

• Smartply Propassiv & Steico membranes were key in making the property airtight.

• Steico wood fibre insulation was installed, ensuring exceptional thermal performance without the need for central heating.

• The property features a Cladco black corrugated metal roof, paired with locally sourced Larch cladding, creating a unique and visually stunning exterior.

• Energy-efficient solutions such as triple-glazed airtight Residence windows, MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery), solar PV, and solar thermal systems further enhance the property’s green credentials.

To complete the transformation, extensive landscaping at the front and rear of the property adds to its stunning and distinctive appeal.
